A Tale Of Eight Japanese Hospitals

Wouldn't it be cool if your kid turns out like some football superstar who plies his trade in Europe with real talent and substance, like Shunsuke Nakamura (pictured, left)? I would certainly love that, it's like a son fulfilling a dad's dream, ain't that so? Hur hur...


Just this week, a Japanese lady who was 6 months pregnant experienced severe pain and she was about to have premature delivery. An ambulance arrived at her home in no time and sent her to a nearby hospital hastily. But this hospital was fully occupied and there weren't sufficient beds to provide a room for this poor lady who must have been grimacing in excruciating pain. So off went the ambulance, away from hospital no.1 with the expecting lady...

Upon arrival at hospital no. 2, she was told the same story and the ambulance crew had to speed off, looking for hospital no. 3.

The scenario repeated itself til hospital no. 7. Yes, there ain't no typing mistake! This is a true story that occured this week in Japan!! And so, off they went, looking for hospital no. 8. On the journey, the ambulance got into a collision with another vehicle and the situation seem to have brought the inevitable closer to the poor lady. She suffered a miscarriage due to the accident, not to mention the seven ill-equipped hospitals in metropolitan Tokyo.

Unbelievably, hospital no. 8 rejected her too!! Please don't try to create an impression of the ambulance carrying the lady in your mind, it must had brought shudders down your spine...

And so, hospital no. 9 provided some much-needed medical attention to the lady... finally...

Consider the country of Japan, brimming with technological advancements. Pets have spas, manicures, and even posh restaurants... Toilet bowls can wash you up after your business... Robots can pack vehicles into a small parking space... You name it, they have it... And yet, the inadequate healthcare system couldn't have handled the life of an unborned child and the expecting mother any worse...
