TO REALIZE ONE'S DESTINY IS A PERSON'S ONLY OBLIGATION
Do you know your personal calling? Do you have your personal calling? Do you have an idea of what God wants you to do in this 70-year (or so) stay on this planet?
I myself am in the process of finding this calling... As of now, i believe that it is my personal calling to be a teacher, to be able to influence the minds of youths and to lead them to Jesus Christ...
I ain't no holy saint, dude, i am much more indecisive than you think and i'm not liking it. But i have friends who know their personal calling, and they work towards it, and i salute them for it...
Your personal calling is God's blessing for you. It is the path that God has designated for you in order to fulfil a position only you can fill, until the moment you decide to bury this calling underground. In the words of Paul Coehlo, 'Whenever we do something that fills us with enthusiasm, we are following our legend', our legend, our personal calling.
However, not all of us have the courage to confront our own dream and chase after it. There are four obstacles for us to clear in order to conquer our dreams.
1. Our dreams are impossible.
As children, we have already been inculcated with the idea that everything that we want to do in the future is impossible. 'There ain't no astronauts from Singapore!', 'You can be a musician if you wanna eat air!', 'Stop dreamin and just study hard!'. Does it all sound familiar? And it's really hard to simply ignore these voices or not letting it affect you in a negative way at all cos the ppl that matter to you seem to be the ones telling you those stuff.
There will come a point of time where your personal calling is buried so deeply that you can no longer see it, nor hear it calling out to you faintly. But it is still there, waiting for you to unearth it.
2. Our dreams will hurt the ppl we love
Once we unearth our personal calling, we are faced by the second obstacle, love. It may sound mind bloggin but allow me to explain. We know what we have to do to achieve those dreams, but we also know that in the process, we may disappoint or hurt our loved ones because we some things are sacrificed in the process. I don't really have to draw examples do i?
Very often, we forget that love is just a further impetus, not a road block. Our definition of the word has been totally warped and mutated by the ways of the world. Those who genuinely wish us well and know what we want to do want us to be happy and are prepared to accompany us on the journey to chase the dream.
3. We fear defeat
Love is a stimulus.
Those who fight for their dreams suffer far more than those who ain't bothered, because we can't use the excuse, 'whatever... i didn't really wanted it anyway'. Even if we have said it before, we never meant it cos we really know that we DO want it and have placed everything at stake and made countless sacrifices and have put in all our heart in the process. Remember, the devil is out there to conspire against you fulfilling God's calling for you!
Defeats ain't necessary, but they do happen. This is because when we start of without any experience, we are bound to make mistakes. But the key is just to get up one more time than you fall! Once we overcome our defeats, we are filled up with euphoria and enthusiasm, because we know that we are then worthy to be miracles of life, and each hour and each minute, is part of the good fight!
But one if one day, you realise that you are about to fulfil your dream already?? Then it comes to this fourth point...
4. We lose the motivation to give the final push
You are done with most of the preparation work, and you think perhaps it's time to take a small breather... How often have you felt or thought like this? Fact is, the mere possibility of nearing what we want fills us with guilt cos we look at ppl around us and perhaps feel they do not deserve to fail to get what they have wanted, and perhaps it is the norm to not get what we want. We forget about the obstacles we have overcame and the suffering endured, and at the final step, we give it...
This is the greatest obstacle cos there is often a saintly feel to that, to feel like you know that it was within your reach but you choose to give yourself up in order to sacrifice your self, your pride... But if you believe that you are worthy of what God has for you in His plans, you fight hard to get it and you become an instrument of God... and then you will understand your calling, your purpose...
