IT WAS WORTH IT ALL...
Recently in iraq, there was an orphanage that was uncovered by the US soldiers. its condition brought tears to many of the war-seasoned grown men... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/06/18/eveningnews/main2946007.shtml they saw many motionless bodies of mentally diabled children on the floor, chained to beds... the bodies were lying in their own waste, covered with flies and skinny to their bones... the soldiers picked one of them up and realised that they were actually alive, and have gone w/o food and drink for ages... flies flew out from one of the boys' mouths as he smiled... the caretakers of the orphanage have actually been cooking food for themselves from a kitchen that is filled with fresh food and brand new clothing meant for the kids... the US soldiers have since saved the lives of all those boys with the saddening exception of one... in the words of LT. JASON SMITH, who's a special education teacher together with his wife,
"She (my wife) said that one day was worth my entire deployment, it makes the whole thing worthwhile."
This single event has made his entire deployment in iraq worthwhile... and in his finite mind, he wasn't meant to do this in Iraq... but what a divine and purposeful plan God had had for him.
This story reminded me of another happening... last dec, the Boys were made to organise a recruitment event to attract ppl to join the BB... a BBQ and games session was organised at night... it was planned pretty not up to standard and the officers ended up taking over the programme... and guess what, only 1 new boy turned up... the Boys were then 'debriefed' after the programme ended... in my human mind, i thought that the event was quite a disaster as we nvr achieved what we set out to do...
fast forward to the present... guess who is that boy? it is none other than derrick, my dear cell member... not only did he join the 99th coy, he had since became a Christian and has been attending cell group and service every week...
i have learnt that we shouldn't be too caught up in numbers... God doesn't see numbers, He sees lives... i was seeing with eyes of the flesh, but God has opened up my eyes of the spirit to see beyond what was done that night...
God does work in wonderous ways doens't He? like the starfish story that our dear SP often shares, derrick is like one of them...
